About This Guided Project

Why you should do this Guided Project

YouTubers are faced with the pressure to create content that can potentially become viral and help pave their way to be the Internet’s next sensation. What, then, gets more views nowadays? Are certain categories more popular than others in general, or does title length matter too?

Whether it be healthcare or retail, data visualization is a crucial technique for displaying key observations in a neat and understandable way. Interactive plots and dashboards extend the possibilities in customizing your presentation for varying audience. In this guided project, you will build a dashboard with interactive plots to observe trends in YouTube videos over the past decade. You will be involved in the complete process of examining the data, determining what variables are of interest, and eventually construct different graphs depending on its purpose.

A Look at the Project Ahead

After completing this guided project you will be able to:
  • Engineer useful features for data visualization
  • Explore types of graphs offered by ggplot and plotly
  • Create interactive plots with plotly
  • Build a static dashboard using flexdashboard

What You'll Need

This project uses R and RStudio. The learner is recommended to have a basic understanding of the language and IDE, such as where to add code, how display output, and some familiarity with dplyr and ggplot.

Data Scientist

I’m a passionate data science educator whose goal is to learn by teaching innovative data science tools that can improve our day-to-day tasks and our quality of life. My interests are in Natural Language Processing: text classification, summarization, and generation. Research can take a long time because there are a lot of resources and new opinions posted every day. Having tools to summarize and extract the information can save a lot of time. I hope we can all learn, approve, and apply the data science tools to cut down on the repetitive and tedious tasks, to make more informed decisions in life, to differentiate fake from real, and to open communication spaces to language-diverse or hearing-impaired audiences. The applications are limitless! My personality: I am a foodie and I love cooking and learning different cuisines. I also love travelling and connecting with people by learning a little bit of their language, about their food and music. I hold Data Science and Analytics master’s degree, specializing in Machine Learning, from University of Calgary.
